DOLPHIN HAT TOURNAMENT – RESULTS

We had a great turnout on Saturday with 22 anglers on 6 boats.  A lot of fish were caught, although fishing was a little tough at times.  And the winner is . . .

Bob Schulman, Sarge Crowell and Burt Dubois – This 3 man team cleaned up!  55 total points with their 3 biggest dolphin weighing in at 24, 12 and 10 lbs, with 9 other keepers.  They outsmarted the rest of the fleet and fished on the shallow side, with most of their fish coming inside of 900 feet.

2nd place:

Steve Siegel, Matt Cappiello, Walter Cornwall and Jim Blake – We had a good day with our top 3 fish weighing in at 13, 8 and 5 lbs, with 8 other keepers.  Most of our action was between 900 and 1500.  We also watched a white marlin put on a little show right next to our boat but could not get him interested in anything we had to offer.

3rd place:

Charley Berkley, Larry Crismond and Trae West – These guys had 3 dolphin weighing in at a total of 20 lbs and 2 other keepers for a total of 22 points.

Congrats to the winners and thanks to everyone for a great tournament.

Our thoughts and Prayers for Brad

Its with a heavy heart that I share we received word that Brad Rinsem’s wife Christina passed away yesterday morning. We would ask that you keep Brad and his family in your thoughts. We do not have much information as of yet. We believe Brad’s family will be holding a memorial in the Twin Cities in July. As we get more information we will share it with the club.

Thank you,

5/1 – 3 Key West Trip

Gentlemen,

Our trip is now less than a week away. Even the weather looks like it is cooperating. We have 5 boats fishing the tournament on Saturday. Rules and teams are listed below. Sherman Nicks will be master of ceremonies. All the team captains (whoever is listed first for your boat below) should contact Sherman after you are done fishing to report your catches so he can determine the winner.

Trash talking to your tournament opponents will commence Friday evening over dinner at Benihana (3591 S Roosevelt Blvd). Dinner reservations are set for 7pm. We have 35 people signed up (see list below).

We have a set menu for the group:

Menu: $27.00 (including tax and gratuity) per person.

Teriyaki Chicken Dinner: Served with Hibachi Fried Rice, Japanese Onion Soup, Benihana Salad, Shrimp Appetizer, Hibachi Vegetables, Homemade Dipping Sauces and Japanese Hot Green Tea.

If anyone has issues with the menu, they can order whatever they want from the general Benihana menu. Everyone is responsible for paying their own tab. In addition, sushi platters for the group will be at your tables. The club is picking up the tab for this.

If for any reason you will not be able to make dinner or will not be able to make it on time, please contact Sherman Nicks (954 610 3639) so that he can coordinate with Benihana. Benihana has been very flexible and accommodating with us to handle our group so please be sure to communicate any changes in plans.

We currently do not have any events organized for the ladies/anyone that will not be fishing on Saturday. There was a lunch at Sunset Key in prior years. We have the contact information for Sunset Key to try to set it up if there is a group interested. I would like to get someone to organize this if there is sufficient interest so please let me know if there is any interest in the event and if anyone’s spouse would volunteer to coordinate.

Let me know if there any changes to the list below. I will only be around until Thursday morning to help coordinate things. If something comes up after that, please get to Sherman.

Thanks,

Mark

Take a Hero Fishing Tournament – Reminder

I want to remind everybody about the upcoming Take A Hero Fishing Tournament on Friday May 8th. This is also going to be a Club boat tournament within the bigger tournament. If you are a captain and have already signed up or plan to sign up, please send me an email so that I can keep track of who is fishing. If you would like to enter and do not have a boat, let me know and I will see if there is any room on any of the Club boats.

Rules/Points:

Lines in and out follows the tournament times, which I believe is 8 am – 2 pm. In terms of scoring, this tournament is about keeping the rods bent for the guys we are taking fishing. (Almost)every fish caught counts. 1 point per pound for all meat fish (including kingfish, mahi, tuna, wahoo, snapper, grouper, cobia, tripletail, etc.), regardless of size. 25 points for Sailfish Release. 100 points for a marlin release. 5 points for shark, amberjack, barracuda, etc. release. 5 points maximum for each bonita caught (all of which should be saved for the guys in the club who use them for swordfish bait – I can collect these at the end of the tournament). No points for remora, triggerfish or other non-edible reef fish.

Let me know if you have any questions.  This is being sent out under John’s login, so please email me directly at ssiegel@laborlawyers.comThanksSteve Siegel.
