Hat Tournament – Sailfish Series – Saturday February 13th

I know that this is getting a little ridiculous with the weather, but it feels like we are due for some good weather and good fishing.

Our second hat tournament of the sailfish series will be Saturday February 13th.  This will be a half day tournament – lines in at 7:30 a.m. and lines out at 12:30 p.m.  Everyone can then head by boat to Steve Siegel’s house in LHP for weigh in, fish stories and pizza and beer.  These are always great tournaments with excellent captains and crews.  As usual, each captain can pick one mate.  The rest of the anglers will be picked out of the hat.  If you are a new member or have never fished one of these tournaments, I encourage you to sign up.

If you have any questions about these hat tournaments, let me know. To register, please email me at ssiegel@laborlawyers.com, call me at (954) 594-4514 or register on the website. Here are the rules and how we are going to score this tournament, which will be exactly like the first sailfish hat tournament.

  1. All kite baits and live baits fished without a sinker must be circle hooks
  2. J hooks and stinger hooks can be used on your deep baits

Sailfish Releases: 25 points Marlin Release: 50 points Mahi, Blackfin, Wahoo, Cobia, Kingfish: 1/2 point per pound for all legal size fish(maximum of 3 fish per species – no minimum weight limit). Bonus for catching 4 eligible species – 25 points.

Our rescheduled second hat tournament of the sailfish series will be Sunday January 24th. We had great participation for the last hat tournament, so let’s keep that up!

11/18 LHPSSA meeting agenda

Gentlemen,

Our speakers for Wednesday evening (yes, this Wednesday, 11/18) will be our very own doctors Furia, Kleinhenz and Sherman. They will be teaching us how to deal with various medical situations while on the high seas. We have had plenty of real life experiences in the club so please join us for this informative meeting. You never know when you will need it.

Also, its pasta night and that is reason enough to come! Cocktails at 6, dinner at 7.

See you there.

BIMINI WAHOO TRIP!!!

We are planning our annual Bimini Wahoo Trip for November 20-22, Friday – Sunday.  This is always one of the best trips of the year. Please join us either as a captain or an angler.

New members – this is a great trip to get to know some of the best fisherman in the club and learn a ton about wahoo fishing and Bahamas trips.  If you have a boat but not a lot of Bahamas wahoo experience, let me know and I will make sure to get you an experienced crew.

Once I get a handle on how many boats and anglers, I will coordinate the details of where we are staying and timing and crews.

In addition to high speed wahoo trolling, I’m sure some of the crews will do some deep dropping, yellowtailing or spearfishing.

Details of the Saturday wahoo tournament to follow in a subsequent email.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  Otherwise, to register, please email me at ssiegel@laborlawyers.com or call me at (954) 594-4514 or register on the website.

SWORDFISH TOURNAMENT – SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19TH – SIGN UP NOW

Our annual swordfish tournament will be Saturday Night, September 19th.  Fishing time will be from 7 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.  No electric reels, although crews can certainly go out earlier in the day and do some drops on the electric or fish  for whatever else – those fish just won’t count for the tournament.  Each captain can choose 2 mates, although you may be required to bring an additional 2 LHPSSA anglers, depending on how many anglers sign up.  Please let me know ASAP if you are planning to fish.  You can sign up on the website or email me at ssiegel@laborlawyers.com.  Thanks.

So far we have 3 boats signed up, so we could use some more boats and some more anglers.

Swordfish Tournament – Saturday Night – September 19

It is time again for our annual swordfish tournament.  It will be Saturday Night, September 19th. Thanks.

Kids Fishing Tournament – 8/22

We have not had many sign ups for the kids tournament – so far only Rick Moore, Charley Berkley and Chris Castles.  If we don’t get a few more boats, we may need to cancel. Please call (954) 594-4514 or email me (ssiegel@laborlawyers.com) to sign up or you can sign up on the website.   Here is the information:

With the help of Rick Moore, the Club is planning a kids fishing tournament for Saturday August 22.  All kids age 14 and under are welcome to fish – kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, your neighbor’s kids, etc.  We will fish from 8:00 – 12:30 and then gather at Rick’s house for a pizza and pool party with the kids.  This will be a bottom fishing tournament with the main goal being for the kids to catch lots of fish.   Once we get a better handle on participation, we will figure out the prize categories, which will probably include categories for most fish caught and most variety of fish caught as well as biggest snapper/grouper and most keepers.  This should be a great event.   If you have kids who want to fish and don’t have a boat, let us know and we will do our best to get you on a boat.

Trophy Case

Gentlemen,

The LHPSSA trophy case that was at the IGFA is available if anyone can use it. It is currently in the club’s storage unit (on Federal Hwy in Pompano). We are closing the storage unit at the end of the month so unless someone takes it, it will go to the dump. The base of the unit is in good shape. The top portion of the unit is mostly plexi glass and has a number of scratches. It would take some work to put it back in good shape. It has 2 etched edge glass shelves that were made by Island Glass.

Let me know if anyone is interested or would like more information.

Thanks,
